The star has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

The star was awarded the prize on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the top album of the previous year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his early career.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts like Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped venues that were confronting possible closure due to challenges arising from floods, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The notion that money from shows in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

He is not the first artist to donate his award funds to charitable organizations.

Back when they received the trophy in the year 1996 for their album the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the act would contribute their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, artist the artist divided her award among a few good causes, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite told outlets.

Two years ago, the band gave their winnings to the community center that developed their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People donated their award to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," said vocalist Heather Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted the lives of others."

Last week, the trust announced it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under local control.

One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were bought under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
